LA CURVA
with: Sylvie Courvoisier (piano), Bobote (rhythm and dance), Inés Bacan (vocal)
ISRAEL GALVÁN, choreographer and bailaor
at Flamenco Biennale IV – Rotterdamse Schouwburg
Galván debuted in the Netherlands in a sold-out Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ during the 1st Dutch Flamenco Biennial in 2006 with Edad the Oro. In this show, he lovingly embraced and overhauled traditional flamenco with Alfredo Lagos on guitar and the late Fernando Terremoto on vocals. Unpredictable and defiant, but firmly ground in the tradition, he explores the boundaries of flamenco and undresses her. Galván belongs to a new generation of flamenco pioneers who eagerly look across the boundaries of the genre, looking for new forms, for a modern flamenco language. He is one of the great new innovators of the gene, and has won almost all major flamenco prizes. In this fourth edition of the Flamenco Biennial, this ‘Nijinsky of flamenco’ returns to the Netherlands as Dancer in Focus with two performances: La Curva in the Rotterdam Schouwburg and his new creation Lo Real-Le Réel-The Real.
